About
Joni Christian is a member of The Church in Silver Lake, OH. As a Minister of Extravagant Welcome, she has had the opportunity to become fully involved in the life of the church. "My spiritual journey led me to the United Church of Christ, where I found acceptance. I became certified as an Authorized Minister through the Living Water Association's Partners in Ministry program. I’ve worked with churches in the Open and Affirming process, and I’ve discovered ways to utilize my talents and encourage the talents of others. I love singing, community theater, public speaking, facilitating workshops, and working on advertising and promotion. My interests include spiritual awakening, recovery, social outreach, and meaningful fellowship. I also enjoy working on music and video projects to promote the power of love. I believe that God is still speaking, singing, and dancing."
In brief, Joni will share her experience of finding inclusion within the United Church of Christ as an LGBT activist for over 50 years. She has transformed this journey into a passion for welcoming everyone to God's love. Through music—particularly a song titled “God of Love”—she has arrived at a new and different place in her life.
"It has given me a connection that I share whenever I have the opportunity. It has become a prayer, a mantra, and a personal connection to the God I understand, keeping me focused. The message is as powerful today as when I first heard it: God is a God of Love, not a god of hate. This has become my life's work. It is my prayer to be the change I wish to see in the world."
The world is coming to understand that God's beautiful humanity is diverse. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are asserting their place in society, demanding nothing less than respect.
